UPDATE August 2018: Seems that this option has been dismissed for good. I will update this post regularly to highlight any news on the topic.
Seems like Google is giving extra space to its extended ads. Today I found a different mask on just one account I manage, through which I had the ability to write extra (optional) 80 chars.
As a Google AdWords Consultant (Consulente AdWords) I heard no rumors so far on this.
The new format is now 30+30 chars for headlines and 80+80 for descriptions.

This is a incredible change to the ETAs already.
Have you got any results from split testing, would be interested to see how far the CTR improves as a result of this.
